Welcome to Travelorlabout, my little space on the net for sharing inspo, travel tales and an online diary of my ventures around the world.
I’m Orla, 28 years young and originally from countryside Ireland. I grew up in a village called Ballinamuck (don’t even attempt to pronounce it) and started travelling as soon I graduated from College (or uni as some of you may refer to it).
I’m fortunate to have called Greece, Australia, London, Vienna, Thailand and Vancouver home as I spent time living and working in all these amazing countries since 2011.
I’ve been on the fastest roller-coaster in the world in Abu Dhabi, dived the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, sea walked the bottom of the ocean in Bali and had a picnic while suspended 300m above a valley floor on a cliff edge in Melbourne.
Despite graduating with BA in Social Care, I never fancied a traditional career path. Instead, I wanted to experience as many careers as possible on an international scale before choosing the ‘one’.
Some of the jobs I have nabbed globally are as follows: being an extra on Australian TV series, working at the Grand Prix in Melbourne, a Stylist for a luxury fashion brand in London, model for a beach-themed photoshoot in Australia, English language teacher in Thailand, beach bar promoter in Greece, and a voluntary role as travel writer for an expat lifestyle magazine in Thailand. My Resume is far from boring!
Today, however, I have found the ‘one’ career-wise and have pursued a career in Marketing. I began agency side working on a large portfolio of clients in both Ireland and Canada. Since myself and my fiancé, Jack moved back to Melbourne, Australia in 2019, I’ve been doing marketing for a large budget travel accommodation provider – basically, all things travel from 9 – 5!
I’ve ticked off over 30 countries and travelled solo, with Jack, my family, and friends over the years – the travel style I’d recommend is to try them all at least once in your lifetime.
Sometimes I flashpack and more often than not I backpack (having a suitcase and backpack qualifies you for both) so you could find me mingling at a hostel or staying in a unique getaway with one-of-a-kind decor. One thing I know for sure – travel is my biggest passion and frankly, I believe It’s the best pastime anyone could have.
Working abroad, living abroad, unique accommodation and experiences, and general travel info and tips – you’ve come to the right spot as you’ll find it all right here on Travelorlabout!
Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to travel more than just two weeks of the year and maybe even to move abroad – why the hell not?!
