Are you a resort and all in luxury kind of traveller or do you prefer to keep it a bit more real and go for low-key kind of accommodation? Whatever your taste in holidays, there’s something out there for everyone but with each style comes pros and cons. I’m taking a glimpse at why you should give up the sun beds for Glamour Apartments and all-inclusive for street food. Who doen’t love street food after all?
Holidays are what so many of us are thinking about, stuck behind our desks on a gloomy Monday morning. We long for golden sand, cocktails on the beach and a poolside bar, but could you get more out of a holiday going with self-accommodation? Lets take a look.

Why you should
Quite simply, you’ll get a better idea of life in another country if you’re living among its inhabitants. Check into your self-catering apartment and wake up to the sights and smells of your holiday destination, not just a sterile hotel.
You’ll also save money, besides your Airbnb being cheaper to rent by the week, you also have the option of choosing how you eat and when. Head down to that little café you saw for breakfast, eat where the locals eat (always the best) or hit up your local supermarket for food to make at home. This is particularly useful if you’re travelling with small children who relish their home comforts or are a penny pincher looking to eat on the cheap.
You also have more freedom over your comings and goings and are not dictated to on the timing of meals and when you can access your room because it’s being cleaned.
Why you shouldn’t
Ask yourself, who is this a holiday for? If cooking and cleaning every day, just like you do at home, is your idea of break then that’s great but for most of us coming back to a freshly made bed after a day on the beach is bliss.
You’re not here for the culture, you’re here for the weather and that’s what you’re going to enjoy. The all-inclusive element takes a lot of hassle out of finding restaurants in the area and you can always find something you like. When you only have a week and there’s food, sun and entertainment, what’s not to love? Besides that pool is the perfect place to sit and read all day. I have to admit, all-inclusive is my idea of a nightmare holiday as I’m more for exploring but I think everyone should try it at least once in their lifetime.
In reality of course the kind of holiday accommodation you prefer is as individual as you and your family. You might look forward to a week of no cleaning up and cooking or you might relish the freedom to make your own choices and spend your days casually exploring the city you find yourself in.
Either option requires careful consideration and just a little research to find just the right hotel, apartment and destination. Start digging by doing some research and begin dreaming of that ideal location, far away from your desk and that miserable Monday morning.
