Whether you’ve just moved to Canada, or you’re looking to take a trip here, the likelihood is that you’ve heard all about of the natural wonders Canada has to offer. There is something about the vast expanses of forest – and those characteristic spruce trees (can you tell i have an arborist fiance?) – that just screams Canada, and there’s a beauty here that just can’t be replicated elsewhere. If you’re looking to experience some of the outdoors in Canada but you don’t know where to begin, try out these 5 places! While unfortunately, I didn’t make it to all the following sights, I heard nothing but wonderful things from fellow travelling friends and Canadians themselves!
Take it from anyone who has ever been, you shouldn’t visit Canada without taking a trip to Niagara Falls. This is a pretty famous landmark and it’s popular with tourists, but still something that you have to see once in your lifetime. Situated on the border of Ontario, it is actually a collection of three waterfalls, one of which is the biggest in North America at 51 metres tall. This is definitely worth a trip and i hope to come back one day to experience it myself!
When you first look at Yukon, you may think, ‘well, it’s nothing special.’ There is hardly anybody here, and it’s just more mountains and lakes (which we’re not complaining about, you know?). However, during certain times of the year, you can see the Northern Lights here, and it really is a sight worth beholding, especially from the comfort of a toasty log cabin. Yes please.
Dinosaur Provincial Park
Look, not being dramatic here, but Dinosaur Provincial Park is probably one of the coolest places ever. Not only is the scenery here just beautiful, but the park is also home to the relics of more than 35 different species of dinosaur. Take yourself back in time with a trip here, especially if you’re a bit of a history buff. i wouldn’t blame you for spending quite a while in this park.
If you’re a lover of the ocean, Haida Gwaii is definitely worth adding to your list. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s one of the main destinations for sea kayaking Canada style, and you’ll be able to see a whole host of different creatures. From humpback whales to sea lions, the list goes on when it comes to the wildlife that you’ll see here, so it’s definitely worth going sea kayaking in Haida Gwaii!
The Canadian Rockies
Well, i had t get to it at some point, right? The Canadian Rockies are one of the most amazing things you’ll ever see, no questions asked. The snow-covered mountains are sitting in the distance, beyond huge expanses of turquoise lakes, surrounded by dense forests and the animals that inhabit them. I could go on about this place, but you really just have to experience it for yourself. Even when my parents came to visit the Rockies, they couldnt quite get over the natural beauty and its certainly like nothing they’ve ever seen before!
So, whatever brings you to Canada, whether it is a short break or you’re actually living here, you simply have to take the time to feast your eyes on some of the breathtaking scenery. You could never see it all, as there is so much on offer here, but these 5 places are great places to start. Have fun, and enjoy the natural wonders of Canada!
