If you take the leap and decide to work as you travel, you’ve made a huge decision for your future. Having a life that works on your terms, going wherever you want to go and when you want to go is a pretty sweet life. It’s a dream that most people think about all the time and you’re doing it – just you, right now.
It’s a dream, sure, but the challenging bit comes with supporting yourself on the road in a way that actually works for you. If your business allows you to be fluid with your location, you’re already onto a winner. The key is to pay attention to what your money could do for you while you are travelling, and making sure that while you enjoy the sights and sounds of all the places you could visit, you are staying afloat with your expenses. Still confused? Check out the tips below:
- Get Smart. With your smartphone, that is. Everything you need to manage your money rests in the palm of your hands. Money banking apps, money saving apps and money sending apps like the Square Cash app are every business travellers dream. You need to be downloading communication apps and management apps to ensure that your funds are safe, secure and easily transferable when it comes to paying the bills and moving money from one account to another.
- Necessary Technology. As with the mention of the smartphone above, you also need to have the right technology with you to make your travel and work fuse together seamlessly. There are always plenty of tools out there, but your carry on should include a laptop, an unlocked phone for various sim cards as you country hop, a Skype account to access people at home, external battery packs and adaptors. If you have all of these things, you can continue to work, which helps keep you debt-free.
- Get Local. You run a business, and just because you’re not back home stuck to a desk, it doesn’t mean that you can’t meet new people and talk to them about your business and what you do. Network carefully and you’ll meet lots of new people and connect with new businesses abroad. You can expand your network this way, contacting new clients and worldly prospects. Exciting, right?
- Don’t Procrastinate. Yes, the world is beautiful and yes, you’re going to want a rest day or two to enjoy yourself while you see the world. But procrastination is the killer of most businesses, because you are busy relaxing in the sunshine instead of concentrating on the income. No income = no accommodation = plane ride home. Don’t fall into the trap!
Your travels can blend well with your business; you just have to want it enough. Take the time to plan it right and you will be able to run your business wherever you go.
