If you follow me on my social channels, you may have noticed, I am now the proud co-owner of the DJI Mavic Pro. Jack invested in this drone over Christmas, for us to use on our adventures. He’s the best, i know! You guys had some drone related questions that you shared on one of my Instagram posts and I am here to answer them. So keep on reading to see your DJI Mavic Pro- beginner questions answered below.
How much does the DJI Mavic Pro cost?
The DJI Mavic Pro is not a purchase you will make on a whim. Averaging betweern $1,200 to $1,500 depending on the bundle you choose, its certinaly an investment piece.
What distance can the drone go?
I’d be lying if I said, I wasnt still operating the drone in beginner mode. Hey, baby steps OK. However in time, its amazing to visalize myself setting the drone off with its ability of flying a total distance of 13km. Oh the places you can go, with this drone!.
How high can the go drone go?
Wait for it……. The DJI Mavic Pro can reach an astonishing 5000 meters. WOWZERS!
How portable is the DJI Mavic Pro?
Portability was a key consideration for myself and Jack, as we move location so often. We tossed between the DJI Spark and the Mavic for some time, before the Mavic coming out the winner. The Mavic is designed with portabilty in mind, featuring an innovative foldable design. It fits into its small size case, that you could almost mistake for a camera bag. When folded, the Mavic is H83mm x W83mm x L198mm and its diagonial size is 335 mm(with the propellers off). See our first ever drone flight below.
How does the drone work in windy conditions?
I personally would not suggest taking the Mavic out in any kind of harsh weather conditions. If you take it out in gale force winds, i think we can all guess the outcome. Despite this, the Mavic is relatively stable and can hold it own in high winds.
How easy is the drone to operate?
Honestly it takes a while to get your head around this drone. I am still learning all the features but i find the actual flying/controlling aspect of the drone easy-ish. When you take the drone out for its very first ride, its important to make sure the compass on the drone has been calibrated. The DJI app connected to your phone will walk you through the process.
What is the camera and video quality like?
The video quality of the Mavic is an incredible 4k and shoots 12 megapixel photos. We found the first time we flew our drone the image quality was poor and slightly jumpy, so we still need to make sure the drone is on the right settings every time we take it out. However i am pretty sure that people who know how to properly fly these drones are getting some sick footage.
What are my favourite features of this drone?
100 per cent, the tracking modes. The different tracking modes, like Active Track and Profile allow the drone to follow a subject as it moves. See our example of the tracking mode below.
How long does the drone fly for?
The flight time of the Mavic Pro is 27 minutes, lots of time to get some amazing aerial footage.
Would i recommend you invest in the DJI Mavic Pro?
Of course i would. The DJI Mavic Pro can capture some insane videos and images, once you have the patience required to learn how to fly it properly.
My personal recommendations
The below landing pad has been a saviour when trying to land the drone in wettish areas. It saves your drone from landing on the grass and getting the camera dirty.
