There is an abundance of funky restaurants you should try in Vancouver that makes traditional dining more elevated and undeniably exciting. Fortunately, I have tried and tested four funky restaurants in Vancouver that I reckon anyone who likes to experience and dine in the somewhat unordinary, will love. Check out the options below:
Sophie’s Cosmic Café
Sophie’s is one fun-filled restaurant with an instant electric feel when you walk in the door. There is no denying that the décor in Sophie’s is pretty funky, with pink leather seats and walls filled with vintage toys, artwork, and random collectibles. There is also a nice adjoining outside section with a patio that displays a mural painted by award-winning artist Eric Metcalfe.
Food options at Sophie’s
The food at Sophie’s is delicious. With an extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches and a great breakfast brunch menu. I tried the BC Wild Sockeye Salmon burger and accompanied that with a vanilla milkshake. Sophie’s also claim to have the “best” milkshakes in town. Now while they are good, I am not sure it was the best milkshake I have ever consumed (I’ve tried a lot over the years). Overall the food is scrumptious and reasonably priced. For funky restaurants you should try in Vancouver, Sophie’s is certainly deserving of being on this list.
Where is Sophie’s located?
You will find Sophie’s at 2095 West 4th Avenue, in the heart of Kitsilano.
La Foret Bakey and Café
La Foret is a recently opened Patisserie in Vancouver. This restaurant/café is the most instagrammable place I have enjoyed a hot chocolate in for ages and certainly tops the list in terms of funky restaurants you should try in Vancouver. The whole setting is huge, with seats for over 100 people and honestly, nearly all those seats were full when we went, so it is clearly already very popular place. The area is filled with carefully selected plants and trees set against a rustic backdrop. It also has a glassed-in ceiling which creates that feeling of an even more opened spaced environment.
Food/Drink options at La Foret
While I can’t speak for the food, the hot chocolate was pretty mouthwatering by all standards and was presented in an artistic way, by that I mean it’s not your standard plain old hot chocolate. See what other scrumptious treats are on offer at La Foret here.
Where is La Foret located?
You will find La Foret at 6848 Jubilee Avenue, Burnaby.
Sushi is one of my favorite things to eat here in Vancouver, probably because it is so god damn good. Let’s get serious though, who doesn’t love sushi? The Eatery is next level good and that is partially down to its kitschy décor and it’s cleverly named menu items. With its own trending hashtag #Misohorny, I think this somehow perfectly sums up how deserving The Eatery is of being on this list of funky restaurants in Vancouver. I mean just check out their unique website to get a feel for the funky vibes of the restaurant. Claiming to be the funkiest Japanese restaurant in town, I think they can definitely wear that title with pride.

From Tempura, salads, sushi bowls to their own whole section on #funky sushi.
Where is The Eatery?
The Eatery can be found at 3431 West Broadway.
The Pawn Shop
Do $1.00 tacos sound like happiness to you? In that case, we should be friends! The Pawn Shop is a favorite taco tequila (the perfect match) bar, where at certain times of the day, tacos are just $1.00. What I love most about The Pawn Shop, is it’s grunge, come as you feel. With graffiti adoring all the walls, the setting has taken inspiration from East L.A.
Food options at The Pawn Shop
With all kinds of fun and interesting tacos on the menu, nachos and lots more you may get a little carried away here, but you won’t regret it, especially not for $1.00.
Where to find The Pawn Shop
The Pawn Shop is located at 1117 Granville St, but it’s one you won’t miss.
