Happy December everyone….Christmas is fast approaching us, can you believe it’s a few weeks till we are pulling the crackers and milling into the Turkey? With all that in mind, I am sure some of you lot are still debating over a present for Mammy for Christmas. Well rather than being typical and buying her that spa set or that hoover (that she really wishes you didn’t), why not organize a Mother daughter trip? Travel is the best gift you can give someone haven’t you heard?
I have even gone and done the hard work for you and (tried and tested) the ideal location for a mother daughter trip in Europe that you both will love. That location is Lisbon which is the coastal capital city of Portugal. The following pointers are the reasons I feel this is the ideal location for your bonding trip with your Mom.
- Lisbon is cheap and cheerful
Money is tight and you don’t want to head off somewhere flashy that’s going to cost an arm and a leg? Lisbon has you covered. In general everything is relatively cheap in Lisbon. Everything from accommodation, to food, drink, transport and sightseeing can be done on the cheap.

- Perfect if Mammy loves Wine
OK in the grand scheme of things what Mammy doesn’t love a good glass of Vino?
I hear ya! The wine on offer in Lisbon is fabulous and like I mentioned above it won’t break any bank accounts either(we’ll have the bottle so in that case)

Mammy thinks wine with a view is a great idea
- Lisbon is Charming and Moms love that
Think cobblestones streets, pastel coloured historic villages, breathtaking coastlines and incredible city views to be seen from one of Lisbon’s seven hills.

- Lisbon is safe
I know when I was first throwing out ideas to my mom of destination ideas for our trip she was not too pleased with my suggestions of Romania or Russia. Most moms may hear something bad about a country portrayed in the media and will always associate that from there on in with that country. So for various reason my mom felt the countries i had suggested weren’t safe. I am not condoning mammy’s thoughts at all. However compared to some other European cities Lisbon is definitely safe with regards to crime and violence. One thing to watch out for although would be pickpockets in and around tourist attractions of Lisbon and especially on tourist tram number 28.

Could be San Fran, could be Lisbon?
- It gets more sun than its European counterparts
Yes you read me right..because it sits on the western edge of Europe Lisbon is classed as one of the sunniest cities. Think about it what mammy isn’t going to love a city break with some sunshine??

The perfect Mother/Daughter trip to Lisbon
Sounds like the kind of place your Mom would love? Go on ya girl ya…. Surprise her this Christmas!
