Phuket is Thailands largest island and it has seen its fair share of tourists over time. Its popular with everyone from backpackers, young couples and families as it has something to suit all tastes. When choosing where to go in Phuket it is vital to do some research in order to get it spot on. I mean I can only imagine the look on my parents faces if we had booked into a hotel right smack in the middle Patong(where all the madness happens) with go-go girls and guys waving advertisements for ping pong shows just casually outside the door(would have been priceless). This is maybe not the side of Thailand you want your parents to witness. By the way if you are curious about the ping pong shows, well its definitely a one of a kind experience, a very very weird experience to say the least but from a women’s perspective its impressive what they can do(has to be said like), in a very disturbing kind of way. Who knew us ladies were capable of such things? Its baffling! So yes head to Patongs, Bangla road with your friends for some rowdy and insane nightlife , just maybe leave the parents at home for that one.
Karon Beach is more of a “respectable” area to spend time with your family. Its situated south of Patong and to the north of Kata. Karon beach is the third longest beach on Phuket island. While you will still see some backpackers floating around, this area is generally family based and has a much more quieter feel than Patong. Karon is definitely an ideal family area, rest assured no ping pong!
Where to stay in Karon??
We choose to stay at the Pacific club resort and this 4* hotel was the perfect choice for relaxation and chilled out times with my favourite people. Located on a small hill(bear in mind if anyone has mobility difficulties), this resort offers peace and tranquility to all its guests . Its far enough away from the hustle and bustle but still in close proximity to Karon village and the beach so you can nip for a dip at any stage. The Rooftop pool at the resort is where you will want to laze, with in pool covered seating areas and 360 views over looking Karon itself. The flowers, vibrant in colour that outline the pool add that extra wow factor and tropical mountain views surround this boutique resort. I know my parents loved the private feel of the pool. Even though there was other families staying at the resort, the sun loungers at the pool were all in different sections giving it a sheltered feel. This small resort here, with only 40 rooms in total means it will never get overcrowded. This resort even has extended pool hours which is essential for those post Bangla Road late night dips. This pool is seriously astounding, with hills to your backside and the Andaman
sea at your front you will be sure to stay at this pool until the sun sets.
I have to say i love when a hotel owner/manager makes themselves known and enquire how your stay is going. Its nice to feel that they care so kudos to Eric for always being around and making sure my family were comfortable and enjoying our stay . The deluxe rooms at this hotel were spacious and clean and with a nice sized balcony area, that my parents could enjoy sipping their cup of tea on over looking the outdoor garden area. In the evening it was lovely to unwind in the waterfall Jacuzzi and get your sweat on in the herbal steam room. I really liked the dining options here at the hotel, aside from the food being unbeatable and quite reasonably priced, you had the option to dine in the dining room itself, the Jacuzzi garden, and the rooftop pool, so it has nice variety. The resort features all your other expected amenities such as on site spa, fitness center, laundry service and transportation service. Without a doubt the staff working at Pacific club were courteous and very friendly. You wont find a resort that caters for a relaxing family holiday like Pacific Club does!
Here are some of my recommendations of things to do with your family in Phuket…
1-Go to Phuket Fantasea, the biggest and most exciting show on the Island. Trapeze artists, Thai dancers and lots of animals roaming on stage. Set in the most magical little village, this is the perfect family evening out. The corrigan clan gives this a big thumbs up!
2- Explore and wander the Old Town of Phuket with beauiful Sino- Portuguese buildings on either side of the road and experience a town full of character. Enjoy a coffee at any of the quirky old style shops.
3- Have fun dressing your dad up and helping pick out a tailor made suit, you will find the shops dotted all over the streets. Just Don’t forget your bargaining skills.
4- Go on a boat trip to James Bond Island and re live the movie “The Man with the golden gun”. Lots of canoeing to enjoy and stunning backdrops and scenery.
5- Head to the Trick eye museum where you can immerse yourself in 3d photos for fun all the family will enjoy. Here is mom having a tipple….
6- Big Buddah on the hill is the most iconic landmark in Phuket and its nice to come up here with family and take in the 360 views of Phuket town, Karon and Kata.
So i hope this post will help you and your family if Phuket is on your cards soon, this is one of those destinations that i would have probably never dreamed of coming to with my family but as it turns out with resorts like Pacific club offering everything you need for quality family time and an abundance of activities to keep the fam happy, Phuket you were an ideal choice!
