Walking inside the four star Kuhm Phaya resort is like immersing yourself into a little piece of heaven. You are hit straight away with the beauty of the traditional Lanna architecture and designs which the resort prides it self on and a seriously welcoming and smiley set of staff members(probably the nicest i have come across so far). They were maybe even a little too nice, if that’s possible? Sounds of the trickling water displays by the lagoon style pool can be heard as you are escorted via golf buggy to your room. Tis the life. The details gone into the resort is just outstanding and i have to give huge approval to my big bro and his girlfriend for picking such an awesome place to stay for our family holiday in Chiang Mai( you did good Brosephine).

This boutique resort has a total of 85 rooms and villas that are designed to perfection. I had a huge room with an even more enormous king sized bed(yep and all to myself). My room was the Lanna deluxe room and my absolute favorite part of the room was the princess canopy curtains draped over the bed. I had always wanted to sleep in a bed with those curtains since i was a little one so thanks to Khum Phaya for making me feel like a total princess indeed. One thing i will say is the drape curtains not only look super luxe but they keep those mozzies at bay and unfortunately my room seemed to have quite a few. Little friggers. The resort is nestled in a tropical garden of stunning trees and flowers, so mosquitoes are gonna be inevitable. Aside from the princess curtains, the jacuzzi bath was to die for. After having six months of living in Thailand with no bath facilities and cold water showers, i was the happiest girl ever having this heated jet bath at my beck and call. I made good use out of it, that’s for sure. I cant forgot to mention the shower while i am at it, Iv never had a shower with water coming from so many different directions, with overhead and side jets(i believe they call it a rain shower?)You are as clean as a whistle coming out. The room even had a nice spacious balcony with a seating area and that all important pool view. The perfect way to start any morning.
This resort in my eyes is the perfect chill out location to be with your family or loved ones. A canal runs through the side of the hotel that you can have the most rosemantic meal for two at night sitting gazing onto it with lanterns hanging from the trees. Magical. If you come here as a couple you are gonna wanna get on this cuteness overload. The resort isn’t located directly in the center where its all happening, it is situated about 15 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the center, so its in a really nice quiet, chilled out area. Perfect for what my fam bam were looking for. The resort runs a free shuttle bus directly to the night Bazzzar( shopping and market attraction) two times daily and return also. The restaurant at Khum Phaya and buffet breakfast gets top marks from me. Its open all day offering a selection of sandwiches, burgers and Thai dishes. For a resort the prices aren’t too ridiculous, there is a service charge added on but that’s pretty standard. The buffet breakfast has a huge selection and variety of options from cereals, meats, Thai dishes, salads, fruits and what not. Serious food coma every morning.

The pool that runs through the resort is particularly stunning and unique with each room looking directly out on the water. Pure bliss. Some of the rooms are even opened straight out into the pool, but with any added luxury like that you do pay extra. There is a separate pool section for kids to play so it is the perfect chill out pool with a section to keep the kids happy and the rest for the adults. There are lots of private unwind areas with sun loungers, getting a tan would prove very difficult here though because the pool is so enclosed with trees its constantly in the shade and doesn’t catch the sunlight( prefect really for us pale skinned Irish paddy’s). The pool itself was actually quite cool due to lack of sun peeping through, i would have liked it just a tad bit warmer but for most people who are not ac-customized to hot climates, its pretty refreshing for a dip. And how dare i forget to mention the swim up bar, which is a necessity for any pool in my eyes.
The Khum Phaya is a must stay resort in Chiang Mai if your looking for a calm atmosphere to surround yourself in. The designs in this hotel are based on stunning Lanna heritage(true northern Thai culture) and the roof of the resort is a whoppimg 80 year old teak wood design style. Could this place get any more impressive? Not many resorts out there like this one i tell you. The resort also boasts a spa, which i am sure you cant go wrong with, however we found the prices to be a touch pricy so we decided a massage by the ex-inmates at Lila Thai massage would prove a better option(check out my previous post below).
Overall my family and i loved our five day stay at Khum Phaya, we really didnt want our time here to end 🙁 . I miss this place already. I dont usually have a wanting to go back to the same place twice, but as for Khum Phaya resort, id be back here in a heartbeat.
A stay in the Lanna Deluxe Suite will cost from THB 3,412 a night.
