When a hotel or resort chooses a name to display above its doors that everyone is to know it by, it should choose very wisely, right? Well hats off to Crazy House in Dalat, Vietnam for hitting the nail completely on the head with this one. There is literally no better words to describe this very weird and wacky accommodation in the French feel town of Dalat. Crazy House finds itself in the top three list of the strangest hotels in the world(very deserving too) and it was an utter pleasure that me and the girls got to stay here on our ten day Vietnam trip. Its quirky, weird and down right fairy-tale like. The best way to describe this place is like one big massive tree moulded and mazed around animal themed rooms and connected by swirling stairs and slim bridges. Known better by the locals as Hang Nga, who is the architect behind the crazy ass designs of the hotel. She began her impressive work on this incredible hotel back in 1990 and there is works continuing on it still today. She has got to be the most imaginative and creative lady there ever was….proof is in the pudding!. The Crazy House is not her only call to fame, having designed other buildings around Dalat such as the house with 100 roofs. Interestingly Hang Ngas father was the president of Vietnam back in the 1980s, just a lil fun fact for ya!

Its strange, trust me |
Not only is Crazy House a hotel, its also a very popular tourist attraction for the area having its own Wikipedia page mind you and been featured in many travel guidebooks. If you stay overnight here, don’t be at all alarmed if you wake up to people trying to open your doors to have a peek inside. This is totally the norm here and I certainly don’t blame them. We got to the hotel late at night and thankfully i had pre booked this accommodation as Dalat seemed pretty dead to the world at night. Emma had originally booked into a hostel that seemed to be pretty much non existant when we pulled up at it. It had its shutters down and there wasn’t a sinner in sight. So when we landed to Crazy house the receptionist on duty changed our room from a double to a triple room, no problems at all. A stay here can have you snoozing in any of the following rooms:
Kangaroo, Ant, Gourd, Phesant, Bear, Bamboo, Eagle, Tiger, Termite and for you lovely newlyweds the Honeyrroom room. I have to say i think this place is a touch bizzare for a honeymoon couple but what ever you are into i guess. We stayed in the Tiger room which had two huge double beds that were a lovely distance apart from each other and pull round curtains for that extra privacy. The room is just unreal, from a fireplace with a lit up tiger crawling down it, to cute seating areas with adorable teacup sets to mirrors all over the place even on the ceiling. Every inch of this room keeps you guessing and intrigued. Such a cute and cosy room thats perfect for a group of friends or a family.

Staying in the Tiger room will cost 1,311,919 Dong a night but when you divide that by three and consider the once in a lifetime hotel experience your getting its so worth it. For those of you who are not aware of the Vietnamese Dong money that’s equivalent to about 2120 baht a night.
Staying here is perfect for those like myself who love a good explore. We spent about two hours going round investigating the ins and outs of this hotel. Every time we thought we had seen it all, another area we had undiscovered crept into view. The views of Dalat as you climb to the top stairway and over look the city are both stunning and magical combined. Nothing is normal at the Crazy house and pictures alone cant and do not do it full justice and show in detail the extent of mysteriousness of this place. All i can say is, i thought i had stayed in some weird and wonderful places previous to this, but Crazy House blew every single one of them out of the water. This is just one of those places you have to see with your own eyes to believe it.

If you dont fancy a stay in an animal decor room here, why not come as a visitor and check this place out for a small entrance fee of 40,000 Dong( my favourite word in Vietnam) from 8.30am to 7.00pm daily. No other hotel will compare to this, this place is Cray Cray at its god damn finest!!!. Go and believe it for yourself!
