I am always on the hunt for places to stay when travelling that are unique and unusual(normal hotels are just so boring now), when I have the money to spare of course, otherwise a hostel does the job fine.
After researching the fascinating area of Cappadocia and realising that this historic area was an underground city and had cave hotels, It went straight to the top of my bucket list!.
Cappadocia is located in Central Turkey and is like something straight out of a fairy tale book. The distinctive landscape here, hillsides dotted with fairy chimneys due to volcanic activity is a sight for sore eyes.
The locals here have carved into the rock formations and live in cave houses( how epic is that?). For a proper authentic experience, it would be rude not to stay in one of the many charming cave hotels. After much research(one of my favourite pastimes) I picked the Doors of Cappadocia hotel and was thrilled with my choice.
Doors of Cappadocia Hotel-

This hotel advertises themselves saying that your stay with them, will be like heaven on earth and every moment I spent at Doors of Cappadocia was exactly that. From exceptional service and a warm, homely and welcoming feeling upon arrival to an upgrade to the suite room, this hotel can do no wrong.
The mystical atmosphere can be felt throughout the whole hotel experience from check in, to the complimentary buffet breakfast while enjoying panoramic views of the Cappadocia hills. It doesn’t end there though, featuring a very inviting outdoor pool and even more inviting poolside bar. With a 24h desk service, a tour desk and free Wi-Fi, your every need will be more than covered. Even the location of the hotel is perfect, being centrally located in the area of Gerome and in near reach of many hot spots like the Roman Castle and the Gerome Open Air Museum. Its only a short stroll to the town so access to shops and restaurants isn’t a problem.
The suite room

Aren’t random upgrades just the best? Hell yes they are. I feel so lucky to have been upgraded to the suite room at this particular hotel as it really made the whole experience even more special. It really was a strange feeling walking inside this dim lit up cave room(feeling the Fred Flintstone vibes). It was perfectly decorated to a T, with a red circular bed and matching heart cushions, to fresh fruit on the table, a Jacuzzi bath and robes and slippers. Its super luxurious. The underground heating means even the coldest temperatures wouldn’t fizzle you and of course the cute fireplace also helped. The room had a LED screen TV and all your other hotel requirements like minibar. There was a lovely relaxing sitting area, shown in the above pictures. The attention to detail gone into the room was spectacular and I loved the fact that each of the 17 rooms at this hotel are different. The carved out peep hole from the bedroom to the bathroom was interesting, to put it mildly.

Things to do-
If you should ever want to leave the hotel(just saying cos there is potential you might not), there is a world of wonder to explore .
1- Balloon Tour- Take a hot air balloon ride over the tops of the fairy chimneys and get a birds eye view of all the surrounding beauty. This is a touchy subject for me as I was utterly devastated when all balloon rides got cancelled when I was there due to windy weather(all the tears). But I guess it just means I will have to come back and try again, god loves a trier after all. Your balloon ride can be booked directly through the hotel.
2- Explore Cappadocia by foot- Walk in amongst the nature and trek the valleys.
3-Enjoy views at Sunset Point, if your a morning person get up at sunrise and watch the balloons float over the valleys.
4- Goreme open air museum- This is an essential stop on a visit here.
5- Enjoy a traditional meal at any of the amazing restaurants on offer, just make sure you pick a place with a rooftop view, its a sin not to. Many of the restaurants are rooftop and open air and have a heart warming open fire and even provide you with blankets. Its cosy as.
Cappadocia is an essential on any travel enthusiast list if you are seeking beauty, history and magical landscapes. A stay at Doors of Cappadocia is a necessity to indulge in a little piece of cave heaven. Do not miss the opportunity to stay at this unique hotel, this is one cave you will not fear being trapped inside of.
